This fall brings a new Coffeehouse Concert series to Lexington with the Harmony on the Green Coffeehouse Concerts. The series, hosted by Hancock Church, will feature a wide range of acoustic music from varying traditions from October through May.

“I’ve wanted to put together a coffeeehouse series for years,” says Hancock’s Director of Music, Mark Morgan, “and coming out of our covid induced isolation, it seemed especially important. These events are all about people coming together in person to enjoy, and participate in, an evening of song and story from various perspectives and traditions. It seemed exactly the right thing for the moment.” The concerts are open to all, regardless of financial means. “It is important to us to enable everyone who wants to, to come, so we have a suggested donation rather than a ticket price,” continues Morgan, “the shows are also appropriate for all ages and we encourage families to come.”

The inaugural concert will feature Grammy-nominated singer songwriters Alastair Moock and Reggie Harris. Moock, who is white, and Harris, who is African American, will present their program Race and Song, an exploration of history and current events through the lens of race, using the powerful tool of music.  They rely on their years-old friendship to discuss complicated issues of race, class, gender and history with intentionality and generosity of spirit. Together in musical conversation, they open up to each other and frame their lived experiences through music and the use of historical and family photos.

Singers Meg Stone and Mark Morgan will open the show with a range of original and traditional acoustic music. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30.  Hancock Church is at 1912 Massachusetts Avenue. We are handicap accessible and have handicap parking in our back lot.
