Church Administrator

Hancock United Church of Christ in Lexington, Massachusetts is seeking a Church Administrator to help support our mission of changing the world through love, compassion and courage. We are a large, socially progressive and theologically liberal church in Lexington across from the historic Battle Green. We believe that God speaks to each human being, regardless of age, race, sex, creed, orientation, or identity. The Church Administrator reports to the Director of Operations, and works closely with the worship staff regarding all functions of the church. This is a 30-35 hour a week position.

Representative Accountabilities

Internal Communications:

  • Coordinates communications with staff and team leaders
  • Updates and maintains the church calendar
  • Works with church committees as related to committee programs
  • Attends and assists with weekly staff meeting

 

Design, Communication, and Production:

  • Creates and maintains print production deadlines for the Sunday Bulletin
  • Compiles, edits, and formats Sunday Bulletin using publishing software
  • Compiles, edits, and distributes announcements for various weekly email communications including The Hancock Weekly, The Bulletin Email, Sunday Worship Email, and any other all church emails in Mail Chimp
  • Prepares printed materials and projected slides for Worship at the Well evening worship, annual reports, and any other special services, i.e., memorial services
  • Designs and prints internal postcard correspondence to church members, prints address labels and coordinates volunteers for mailing
  • Updates website weekly
  • TV Monitor Slideshow as needed
  • Prepares letters for memorial services and weddings as needed.

 

Administration:

  • Greets people in a professional, welcoming, and hospitable manner in-person, on the phone, and through email
  • Troubleshoots and helps maintain work room printer
  • Works with church database to update member and visitor records.
  • Orders supplies for office and church events (candles, banners, etc.).
  • Schedules Zoom meetings as needed.
  • Maintains and organizes the work room
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in office administration
  • Experience in a customer service role
  • High level of written and spoken English
  • Must be a self-starter and capable of independent work.
  • Must be organized, detail orientated, and curious.
  • Must be willing to understand the bigger picture (the why).
  • Must have, or quickly obtain mastery of Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Canva, Mail Chimp, Breeze Database, Word Press, and InDesign (or other publishing software).

 

Hours: Monday through Friday during regular business hours (can be remote on Monday); flexibility in schedule except for weekly staff meeting in person on Tuesday mornings.

Pay Rate: $25-$27 depending on experience
