What Does it Mean to be a Member of Hancock Church?
Becoming a member of Hancock United Church of Christ means committing to this faith community. It means you have read through Hancock’s Vision, Mission, and Values and agree with the statements saying this is a place where I can put my faith into action with those who share my beliefs.
Generally, most members resonate with our Mission, Vision and Values, and seek to join us as we change the world the love, compassion and courage. Membership, however, does not mean that you have to agree to a set of beliefs, but rather that you are saying “yes” to being a part of the faith journey with this community. We meet you wherever you are on your journey, and we expect to learn as much from you as you might from us.
Steps to Becoming a Member
Welcome to Hancock!
We are delighted you have decided to make Hancock Church your church home.
There are few steps that most people take to become a member. These are outlined below but please know that we can be flexible. Use the contact button to let us know how we can help.
- Attend an informational brunch. Here members of the clergy, members of the Welcoming Team, and prospective members share a meal and conversation. We usually go around the table so everyone has an opportunity to share a bit about what brought each of us to Hancock Church. You are free to say as much or as little as you are comfortable. This is an opportunity to learn more about what the church has to offer, find out what it means to be a member of Hancock, and get to know some Hancock folk.
- Say Yes, I’d like to join! Prospective members who are ready to join are asked to fill out a registration form and write a short biography that is placed in the Sunday bulletin as a way of introducing themselves to the congregation.
- Join during a Sunday worship service. You can join at either 10:00 a.m. Morning Worship or 5:00 p.m. Evening Worship. We ask that you arrive a little early to review what will happen in the service and sign Hancock’s registration book.
During the service, new members come forward at a specified time for joining.
