Worship @ the Well

Worship @ the Well is most Sundays at 6:15 p.m. There is no Well during the summer. Check church schedule for next worship.

Informal – candlelit – dynamic – centering

The Well @ Hancock Church is a space where your spirit can be refreshed and renewed for the week ahead, and a place where you can be reminded that you are a beloved part of God’s creation.

As you enter our old stone building on the historic battlegreen of Lexington. You think of Paul Revere, midnight rides, the beginning of the American Revolution and everything else you learned in American civic history classes.

However,  when you come up the stone stairs and through the large red doors, you notice the stained glass, the candlelight, and the sound of the fiddle.  Everything about this old traditional place reassures you that this is a space where you can let go of all that’s been weighing you down and be present to the newness and energy that you sense in the people who are gathered.  While sitting in the round, you are able to see the smile of a curious child, the wisdom lines of a grandmother, the passionate intention of a young adult, and the peacefulness of a married couple.  The clergy and musicians blend into the crowd, without fancy robes or crosses, they are dressed similar to you.

In the middle of the room is a table set with candles and a simple loaf of bread and cup of juice.  The table is set for those who are certain and those who are uncertain, for those who are longing and for those who are doubting, for those who seek renewal and for those who desire nourishment.

The clergy lead with authentic words that are relevant to your life and the happenings of the world while being grounded in Scripture.  There are opportunities for anyone in the circle to share joys of your week, prayer concerns, and expressions of gratitude.  You are lead through worship by projected images that include toe-tapping bluegrass and hand-clapping gospel music.  The combination of the guitars and piano with the peaceful silence, along with the accompaniment of  insightful words, the sharing of a communal meal, leave you relaxed, challenged, and ready to begin your week.

My Hope is Built

"The Well is a really great service because I think anyone that goes instantly feels welcomed and part of the Hancock community. There is such a relaxed atmosphere that the service helps me let go of the stresses of life and just be with God. The music is really amazing, with so many talented musicians, and it always makes the services more lively. I like the Well because of its friendly yet spiritual feel and because everyone is there to support each other." - Lauren Ranshoff

"I go to the Well because it's personal.  You can't just sit back and watch it happen; it involves you and draws you in.  It's really laid back, and the music is amazing!  For me, it's more spiritual than the Sunday morning service because I feel that I'm making my own unique connection to God.  You can't ignore the community in the room, and everyone that wants to can contribute and participate.  The service counts on everyone there to come to its fullest potential." - Allison Bukys

"Every Sunday night, I go to church at 6:15 ready to sing, worship and reflect on my past week. It’s a place to have fun, and laugh, with a close community and often it is deep and meaningful, too. It isn’t jamn-packed with sermons and speeches, it’s centered on our own lives, music, and stories. The community and welcoming atmosphere of The Well makes me comfortable sharing stories, joys and worries in my life with people that truly care.

When I’m with such a close group of friends, I really feel God’s presence. The music is phenomenal, upbeat and fun. The band provides us with new songs in many languages, combined with weekly favorites.  Although it’s only 45 minutes, I always leave feeling refreshed and eager to come back next week. Anyone can come to the Well and will be welcomed and will feel part of the community immediately." - Lucy Galvin

"The Sunday night service at Hancock United Church of Christ, called The Well, is a fantastic way to start the week.  The intimacy of being in Hancock's original chapel, the engaging music (with live instruments!), and the interactive nature of the worship means each service has amazing energy.  I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to express my faith during the evening and in an atmosphere that so focused on building community amongst any and all that attend." - David DiGiammarino
