Vision

Lay and clergy leadership use the Hancock Strategic Report as a guide and as a benchmarking tool for the work of the church. The report is the culmination of listening to the yearnings and personal visions of Hancock’s members. Not every recommendation has been or will be implemented; however, the report outlines the core vision for Hancock's future.

Background

Periodic self-examination is a healthy and necessary part of life; this practice takes on added relevance in times of transition. Hancock is emerging from of one of those transition times, marked by the recent retirement of two long-tenured ministers, an interim period under Rev. Ellis Johnson, and the arrival in August 2009 of settled Senior Minister, Rev. Paul Shupe.

In the fall of 2006 outgoing Moderator Nariman Behravesh recommended that the church engage in this self-reflection process. The deeply personal portrait of the community that emerged became the foundation of the planning process. With the benefit of this head start, the planning team got going in earnest in January, 2007 and published this report a year later in January, 2008.
