Hancock Concert Series Presents
The Jameson Singers: Celebrations and Lamentations
Saturday, April 16th at 4:00 p.m.

Join the Jameson Singers for a memorable musical journey to the land of Byrd, Weelkes, Pearsall, Vaughan Williams, Britten and other masters from the English songbook.

The Jameson Singers’ upcoming concert features an unusual and richly-varied program. The theme is Celebrations and Lamentations from the British Isles. There will be lamentations a-plenty: a Byrd motet mourning the destruction of Jerusalem, Weelkes’ moving portrait of Absalom keening over the loss of his son, a funeral procession for the victim of a faithless lover. These are balanced by Robert Parsons’ joyous Ave Maria, Ralph Vaughan Williams’s atmospheric setting of a passage from Shakespeare’s Tempest, and Gerald Finzi’s exuberant celebration of love (the title song of our concert). There’s the totally unexpected as well – a tongue-in-cheek tribute to Glow-worms, and Benjamin Britten channeling ‘Jabberwocky’ in his fiercely chromatic setting of ‘Marsh Flowers.’

We hope you can attend our performance at Hancock Church on April 16 at 4 pm. Admission is free of charge; donations are welcome.
