Interfaith Garden Report

Interfaith Garden Report

Hi all-I just wanted to share with you that I had the pleasure and privilege of delivering the first Interfaith Garden harvest of 2016 to the Food Pantry on Saturday. We had asparagus, rhubarb, mint and chives. As you can see, Carolyn Wortman (far right) and all the volunteers were thrilled to have their first delivery of fresh, locally grown produce from any farm or garden at the end of April! Her exact words were, “You won!” ~Janet Kern
Interfaith Garden Gets Ready to Grow!

Interfaith Garden Gets Ready to Grow!

Volunteers came from the Chinese Bible Church of Greater Boston, Hancock, and Grace Chapel. The weather was cool and drizzly. On Saturday, I only stopped by for a short while so don’t know all the tasks accomplished. I do know that with the forecast of snow in the offing, Carla wanted to get more manure spread. It’s better to have it under the snow, then over the snow! So more manure was spread… April 2 Entry
Interfaith Garden Set to Grow!

Interfaith Garden Set to Grow!

Don’t Second Guess Carla! I have to admit, I had my doubts that we would actually be able to work at the Interfaith Garden this afternoon as scheduled.  On Saturday, in the face of the snow storm forecast of 5-6 inches to fall Sunday night into Monday mid-day, Carla says she expected we would be working on Tuesday, even though our next scheduled volunteer time would be less than 28 hrs after snow was expected to end dumping its inches. At 10:30 this morning I walked by and the garden was...

Lexington MLK Day

Lexington MLK Day

This year, the Town of Lexington commemorates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with its third annual family-friendly day of volunteer activities supporting the underserved. Come lend a hand. Last year we had almost 400 volunteers make a difference in the lives of more than 1,000 people. It’s amazing what a community can do! Events begin at 9:00 am with an interfaith discussion about race at Grace Chapel (59 Worthen Road, Lexington). At 11:00 am, join us on the Unity Walk from the Minuteman Statue on the Lexington Green to Cary Memorial...
Help Feed Lexington

Help Feed Lexington

If you are looking for a simple way to support Hancock’s mission in the community, opportunities are available to volunteer at the Lexington Interfaith Food Pantry located at Church of Redeemer on Meriam Street. It only takes 3 hours on the second Saturday of each month, and you’ll be finished before noontime. But wait, there’s more: get to know other Hancock members and other community volunteers, as you work together to provide a critically needed service. There is no preparation – just give three hours of your...
Review of Interfaith Garden 2015

Review of Interfaith Garden 2015

Read the entire End of Year Report here: Garden Report 2015_11_01 (PDF) The Interfaith Garden officially closed its gate on Oct 27th for this year.  Over the season, the Garden delivered 1,666 pounds of fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs to the Lexington Food Pantry.  45 varieties of produce and herbs were harvested. Top crop?  Would you believe bok choy at 257 pounds?  With many Asian clients at the Pantry, this vegetable was happily welcomed.  The Garden’s success was the outcome of a true community effort with...
Come Join the Interfaith Garden!

Come Join the Interfaith Garden!

Hancock helps maintain a garden growing produce for the Lexington Food Pantry. From March thru October we work along with members of other faith communities in a backyard garden in Lexington Center. We plant, weed, chat (a lot) and nurture this garden. On Saturdays we harvest and deliver that same morning to the Pantry. Our produce is added to donations from other giving gardens. Here is a thank you from the director of the Food Pantry: * * * “…Now on a Saturday morning, the...
Colonial Times on the Food Pantry and Interfaith Garden

Colonial Times on the Food Pantry and Interfaith Garden

Text: With the arrival of the growing season came an abundance of produce available to the Lexington Food Pantry. Now on a Saturday morning, the Food Pantry clients can experience that which they otherwise probably could not. Each week 3-5 tables are laden with a wide variety of fresh produce made possible by contributors both old and new. The Lexington Interfaith Garden, which last year produced literally a ton of produce for the Pantry, continues on. The Giving Garden at the Church of Our Redeemer...
