Feeding 5000

854 million people are undernourished. 36 million in the USA experience hunger, of which 14 million are children. And these numbers are climbing.

Feeding 5000 is Hancock’s three-year mission to learn, work together, and find sustainable ways of addressing hunger, while nurturing our church community and involving 100% of the congregation in some way.. This campaign was officially launched with a sermon by Dana during worship on Sept. 28, 2008 and at the Linger Lunch afterward.

The theme for Year One is that we as individuals and a church community can make a difference, today. Year Two calls for community involvement with the message of ongoing sustainability. And in Year Three, our goal of becoming Global Neighbors should lead us to make lasting worldwide connections.

Upcoming Feeding 5,000 activities to have on your calendar:

  • Come join Feeding 5,000 at the Upcoming Go Green Dance. Enjoy the music of Trial Run - classic rock and blues with a dash of Motown - and help raise money for Sustainable Harvest International. Saturday, March 20, from 7-11 pm, at the Elks Lodge in Lexington. View the flyer for more details.

  • Feeding 5000 has launched a food drive to supplement the Greater Boston Food Bank Backpack program. Its goal is to collect ready-to-eat food for 400 elementary and high school students in Lawrence MA. The food will be distributed by the Food Bank to the kids on Friday afternoons for weekend nutrition. We now have over 400 donations as a result of the Hancock Youth Group's fabulous effort — over 100 items donated last Sunday! Read the latest update.
