| Junior Youth Organization (JYO) |
6th-8th grade |
Meets Sundays 10:15-11:00 am |
| the Junior Youth Organization (JYO) is for kids in
grades 6-8. It meets during church on Sundays from 10:15 until
11:00 for religious education classes from a variety of curriculae.
classes are taught by parent volunteers. Other JYO activities
include cooking meals for Rosie's Place, helping sort items
at City Mission Society's Christmas Shop, attending an daylong
Ropes Course or Mountain Hike, Christmas Caroling, the Walk
for Hunger, and others. Additional social activities have included
Snow Tubing, Late Night gatherings, and Bon Fires. |

| Our Whole Lives (OWL) |
8th grade |
Meets Sundays 7:30-9:00 pm |
| Our Whole Lives is a year long sexuality
education program offered for 8th graders. Our Whole Lives
helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about
their sexual health and behavior. It equips participants with
accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas:
human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior,
sexual health, and society and culture. Grounded in a holistic
view of sexuality, Our Whole Lives provides not only
facts about anatomy and human development, but helps participants
to clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand
the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality. Adults
receive extensive training before teaching this program. This
year the teachers are Rev. Dana Allen Walsh, Liz Miller, Sean
Walsh, and Dave Cushing. |

| Confirmation Class |
9th grade |
Meets Sundays 5:30-7:00 pm |
| It has been a long tradition at Hancock to gather
students over the course of their 9th grade year to learn and
to reflect upon some of the central themes and principles of
the Christian tradition. The curriculum of the confirmation
Class includes discussion on faith and belief, the Bible, creation
and evolution, forgiveness and grace and justice and peace.
The Confirmands lead and participate in two services every year
- Christmas Eve family service and Good Friday. In June each
year, the Confirmands affirm their baptismal vows and become
members of Hancock church. This year the teachers are Rev. Dana
Allen Walsh, Liz Miller, and Jim Hamilton. |

| Hancock Youth Group (HYG) |
9th-12th grade |
Meets Sundays 7:00-8:30 pm |
| The Hancock Youth Group (HYG) is a vibrant and
exciting group of 70 members, which values community, social
justice, and a journey with God. HYG is comprised of9th-12th
grade high school students. HYG meets weekly for meetings and
activities. In the fall, HYG has a kick-off retreat to the Craigville
Conference Center to build connections as a group, get to know
one another, and play fun activities on the beach together.
In the spring, during either the February or April school break,
HYG travels 22 hours by bus to build and repair homes for people
in need through HOMES, Inc in East Kentucky. Throughout the
year, the group engages in other social justice activities such
as the Medicine Wheel Project in Boston, Hunger-a-thon, and
Rosie's Place. During "regular" meetings in the Upper Room,
HYGers discuss issues of faith, play games, and share their
"significant point" for the week.
HYG has six officers, annually elected, who serve as the
leadership team for the group. They do the planning for the
meetings, attend Youth Christian Education Committee meetings,
and are a liaison between the adults and youth of the church.
The current officers are Mark DiGiammarino (Co-President),
Emily Fenn (Co-President), Max Swanson, Molly Keeping, Lonny
Irving, and Bennett Erickson.
The regular meeting time for HYG is Sundays from 7:00-8:30 pm in the Upper Room, but occasionally the time and date will differ for a special event or service project. Please see the latest "greensheet" for a schedule of activities and meetings for HYG.
Rev. Dana Allen Walsh works with the Hancock Youth Group and is available to any youth who would like to talk or has questions. Dana has regular hours each week on Thursdays from 3:00-4:00 pm at the Starbucks in the center of Lexington. this is a time open to all youth (13-18) regardless of whether you are a member of HYG or Hancock Church.
