A Container of Mercy

Hancock Church, in partnership with the Lexington Interfaith Clergy Association, is leading a Lexington-wide drive to fill a 40’ shipping container with relief supplies for the people of Puerto Rico, and to gather monetary donations to purchase generators, bottled water, and water cisterns and water filters.  Hancock Church will underwrite the cost of packing and shipping the container to Puerto Rico.

Trustworthy Partners in Puerto Rico

The Third Presbyterian Church in Aguadilla and the Centro Cristiano de Restauracion in Cabo Rojo were identified as trusted partners by Carmen Ramos-Kalsow, Hancock Church Moderator and a native of Puerto Rico. These two churches on the western end of the island will ensure that donations will be used for the benefit of those most in need and not be used for sectarian purposes. For the complete list of needs, see below.

Volunteer Opportunities for Lexington Unites for Puerto Rico

Thank you for considering volunteering to help sort, pack, and load donations for Lexington Unites for Puerto Rico. We have several opportunities to volunteer.

We will be meeting in the Choir Room at Hancock Church. The front door should be open, except for evening packing times when you should plan to enter through the rear parking lot door. Follow the signs to the Choir Room.

Please go to our doodle poll to sign up for time slots.

If you prefer to email me your sign up times, I will add you to the doodle poll. Ideally, we would have no more than 8-10 people in any time slot (with the exception of container loading day on November 14th)

We will need lots of help on Tuesday, November 14th. I will email you as soon as we know what time the container truck will arrive. We will be “live loading” the truck, which means the driver will be waiting. We hope to have the truck loaded within four hours. And there will be plenty to do in preparation for the truck’s arrival, so please consider joining us in the morning on the 14th.

We will be sorting items, folding clothes and bedding and packing and labeling boxes on all dates until November 14th. On loading day, November 14th, we will be moving boxes to pallets, shrink wrapping pallets and loading pallets and boxes on the container

Please let me know if you have any questions. I can be reached by email or on my cell phone at 617-480-9870.
