The Children’s Music Specialist (CMS) works at the direction of the Director of Music, who is your supervisor.  The CMS is responsible for leading the Hancock Choristers children’s choir, making the experience a positive and attractive one so that children want to participate.  The CMS is an advocate for children’s music and helps the children to improve their skills.  In addition, the CMS is the music resource for our Faith Formation program for our children, with a special focus on the kids age 3-grade 1.

Representative Accountabilities

  • Lead the Hancock Choristers and Youth Choirs (grades 2-8) in a weekly rehearsal (11:15 am – noon) and in worship approximately 3-4 times per season at one or both of our worship services.
  • Serve as the music leader for our Faith Formation classes (10:15-11:00 am), planning and leading sing along songs related to the curriculum.
  • Attend the annual Choristers Guild festival with participating children of the church
  • Submit an annual report to the Director of Music on the activities of the groups for the year.  
  • Take part in evaluation and goal setting conversations with the Director of Music as called for.  
  • Coordinate with and be supported by the Director of Music and the Associate Director of Music.

This is a part time position, averaging 3.5 hours per week for approximately 25-28 weeks per year.  Compensation is fifty dollars per hour ($50.00).  There are no other benefits associated with this position.
