| Hancock Environmental Action Team |
The Hancock Environmental Action Team believes that it is a moral responsibility of each citizen to take action to act as good stewards of the Earth. The threat of global warming requires immediate action to prevent future potential major problems around the world. Acting individually is important to remove our own personal carbon footprints. Acting in community is important to effect changes in our neighbors who may not be aware of the threat to our children and future generations.
To address these issues, we have selected three goals:
- Greening our Sanctuary - Greening our Homes
We will seek a plan and the implementation of this plan to reduce the carbon footprint of Hancock Church. Our goal is a zero carbon emission. We will begin with an assessment of the existing carbon footprint of Hancock Church. This will lead to the identification of alternatives to reduce carbon emissions. These alternatives will be evaluated to define which can reduce the most greenhouse gases with the least money. A plan to implement reductions in greenhouse gases will be pursued to effect the reduction within our church property.
Through this process we plan to aid and empower our members to reduce the carbon footprints of their homes
- Education of our congregation
We will promote educational opportunities to help our church family to appreciate the magnitude of the issue and to provide options for addressing the issue. Our goal is to reduce the carbon footprint of our congregation toward a zero carbon emission.
- Political Action
Recognizing that global warming is an issue affecting every creature on Earth, and that it is an issue that the United States must address as the largest consumer of fossil fuels and the largest producer of greenhouse gases, we will promote political solutions within the state and national governments to address global warming and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We intend to promote political action in a manner acceptable for non-profit groups.
