Christian Service Update

It is exciting to be part of a church that supports organizations outside of our walls, specifically,

organizations that try to improve the lives of those who may be struggling with any number of

issues. Your donations to Hancock allow the Christian Service Committee to have a budget of

almost $50,000 which is used to help serve others. This year, approximately $31,000 will be

used for planned giving to 17 organizations, with the largest donations going to City Mission,

Andover Newton Seminary, and Sustainable Harvest International. Smaller donations go to the

Women’s Lunch Place, AMRF, Bristol Lodge, FISH, the Lexington Food Pantry, Rosie’s Place and

several others.

The remaining $19,000 is used for a variety of purposes including:

  •  responding to emergencies on all levels including help for struggling local families and

natural disasters worldwide

  •  offsetting higher green energy costs as the church chooses to be a friend to the

environment

  •  purchasing food for meals prepared at Rosie’s Place
  •  supporting mission trip participants when needed
  •  supporting the interfaith garden
  •  using nearly $9,000 to respond to alternative appeals throughout the year

In addition to the Christian Service budget, our congregation generously donates to offerings

outside the budget including Neighbors in Need, One Great Hour of Sharing, the HYG auction,

Manger Sunday donations for City Mission, and the Hancock Holiday Fair. And we know that

many give to other organizations outside of the church.

We are always looking for new service projects and organizations to support. We welcome

members of the congregation to come pitch us a service idea in need of funding or to connect

us to other organizations where we may be able to make a difference. We would like to involve

our minds and bodies and not just our wallets. Any ideas are welcome.
