Statement of Purpose A Statement of Purpose was written in 2006 as a starting point for generating a Strategic Plan for Hancock Church. This document defines the four pillars that our congregation is built on – Worship, Community, Service and Education. Read more. Using the 4 pillars outlined in the Statement of Purpose, the priorities for a Capital Campaign were defined. These priorities were culled from the many ideas generated from the congregation during the Dream Phase. You can see these ideas from the 760 idea list and the Pick 5 results.
Worship Priorities The priorities identified by worship subcommittee are 1) Make the Sanctuary more accessible; 2) improve the Chancel design to be more functional and more in line with UCC theology; 3) improve the flow from the Sanctuary to Fellowship Hour; and 4) Improve our audio/visual systems. More details can be found here in our Worship Guiding Principles document.
Community Priorities The community subcommittee defines the highest community priorities as 1) making the building welcoming and accessible to all; 2) enhancing the Sanctuary with improved sound and TV systems; 3) create flexible space for Clark Hall, including worship space for The Well; and 4) improve building security. Read more.
Service Priorities The main priorities defined by the service subcommittee are 1) fund one “big” service project that can lead to increase outreach opportunities; 2) provide enough staffing for both identifying and pursuing outreach opportunities for the congregation; and 3) Tithe (10%) of the Campaign funds for service and outreach. Read more.
Education Priorities The education subcommittee defined three priorities for the Capital Campaign. 1) Reconfigure learning spaces to improve their functionality and welcoming appeal; 2) Reconfigure the Upper Room to improve its functionality and welcoming appeal; and 3) Provide long-term funding for broader and more diversified educational and service opportunities for all ages.
