Blessing of the Animals 2022

Hancock Church Annual “Blessing of the Animals”

Sunday, October 16 at 4:00pm

Lexington, Mass., — Hancock United Church of Christ will hold its annual “Blessing of the Animals” service on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 4:00pm on the front steps of the sanctuary. The church will celebrate with music from the River Rock Band and treats for pets and humans! The service will emphasize the importance of animals in our lives and give thanks for the wonder and diversity of God’s creation. All animals and their human caretakers are welcome.

“The atmosphere and music is festive and it’s so much fun to see all the additional family members– from chickens and guinea pigs and lizards to dogs and cats, you feel like ‘the gang is all here.’ Our dog Finn is happy to be included, and is a big fan of the treat that came with the blessing,” said church member Julia Potter.

Music, provided by the River Rock Band, is diverse and ranges from roots/acoustic to jazz, gospel, Celtic, world, and more. The band has recorded two albums, and their music can be heard on all the major streaming platforms.

The service is open to all, regardless of age or sexual orientation; those new to their faith journey or raised in a different tradition—all are welcome! Hancock Church is an open and affirming, immigrant welcoming church in the heart of Lexington, right on the Battle Green at 1912 Massachusetts Ave. in Lexington, MA 02421. The building is equipped with chair lifts and an elevator. Handicap parking is located in the rear parking lot and exit driveway.
